The color of my forbidden skin ⇒ Kirno Sohochari

Let’s back to the scene where humankind now forbids their skin making contact with others to keep them safe from the attack of respiratory killer invisible microbe. In other words, the same humankind is now just booming in rage against the humiliation of their skin under white supremacists knees like Derek Chauvin in America. A bizarre experience for the world where we are living now as Homo sapiens whence after the exit moment of that grassy land which called African savanna!

Maybe for the first time in history, man’s society applied self-restriction to stay at home in excuse to consider their skin a risk-carrier for contagious microbe! Certainly, a new phenomenon that from now to some uncertain extent they have to pretentious about the sensation and values carried by their skin and would try to isolate them from skin contact! They must have a sense if any of them being caught by the respiratory killer microbe he should isolate himself in self-quarantine for the sake of other existers.

Yeah, the flavor of touch and emotion is forbidden for some uncertain extent that the human race earned through its million years hardship battle as a biological survivor on this green planet. Human skin appeared like a sensor device during the early evolution course and reality still being the same that without this lamina no such way remains that can help a man to feel the touch of his beloved one or sensitize the world where he is and yet becoming.

… Nina’s finding recalls the truth again, that is:—Don’t judge a human by his skin color, rather judge him as the crafted gift of ultraviolet radiation, a varicolored artisan of the sun, which is the prime source of all living beings.
…

Whatever we are, an amalgamated phrase of the cerebral cortex that intensified our memories and gushed emotions; that help us to act rational and make our desire meaningful through languages, and prove our ability to be conscious;—it has to be said, the cerebral cortex cannot deliver all these actions till our skin has appeared as a router when we make contact with worldly things. If we insofar flabby cerebral being, so much as the part of our perforated skin. A million notches of the skin being awake when we contact with the world. It like the sensor receives and sends the entire world what we’ve got from contact. The central hub means our cerebral cortex shielded by jelly membranes, is arid without an absence of the sensory tool that can connect the worldly appearance of things in moments.

The skin’s connectivity with cerebral hub and acted as a slave on behalf of the cerebral in sum picturized the brisk landscape where we’ve now existed as a sentient being. We are that man who is capable of sensitizes his ‘self’ through skin-contact. It may Godlike someone or palpably the beginningless universe where something likely to be gelatin made worldly things visible and contactable for us. We have to remember: the skin with its thousand loopholes is the blanket that plays its role as protector and remains as beauty for all living and nonliving objects. Except for the single-cell organism microbes, all living and nonliving beings to some extent is a combination of multiple cells and brain neurons, utterly covered under the shell, and this is what we’ve called skin.

From rock to trees, from multicellular tiny organisms to linear worms, from complex insects to varicolored birds, from frivolous pondfish to intelligent giant whale in the deep sea, from venomous reptiles to rodent animals, and from strong ape-man to the owner of Lil’ bit fragile-physic human…, all are in a word is the sign of cerebral cortex. All built with flabby membranes and the sign of this existence covered by another sign that we named skin.

Human skin, for instance, can consider a source of defense to protect man from the adverse extremity of hot and cold; a shield that covers the bony structure and soft tissues; and as well as an effective sensor that help us getting contact with the exterior world; and without having this medium our brain is just lame to process the signal it carried through touches. Yeah, this is the map where we see territories that we called emotion, marked it by loving affection whom we admire, our hardship battle to survive, our sensitivity on cold and hot, the rift that helps us emits sweat and tears, the milky bun that babies suck after coming here, male’s love-making battle with his female partners, the exit tunnel of gushing bloodshed in the fight, revolution, warfare…, all territory can be seen at glance through the skin. Skin in a word as a mirror that helps us to understand how the variance of skin color makes human species vividly alive.

… Earlier African primate Homo Habilis was doing the same before Homo sapiens; they as well took migration and it helps them to discover fire. Anyway, the Homo sapiens’ migration from African equatorial made a significant impact on skin pigmentation. It leads them to the Low Ultraviolet Zone from the High. UVB and Melanin were not plenty in the ice soaked region due to the cold thickness of the ambient.
…

Contrary, different tonal variations in human skin color arouse negation. The white skin man negates others in excuse of color supremacy. That means skin not only a biological matter to comprehend how sensual responses have processed and got recognition in slithery brain membranes. Skin as a carrier of sensual feelings not only a fact to comprehend how synaptic pathways of the human cerebral cortex handle queues may enter into the body through million loopholes of our skin or epithelial membranes! Rather, human skin as well the concerning matter to think why synaptic pathways of the cerebral cortex deal with hatred and superiority over others.

An outburst of such expressions is coming through in excuse of color supremacy, where a white man thinks himself high-ranked than a black man! It makes human skin a perturbing sign of social injustice, disparity, and apartheid. Why does a man think himself superior in such a mere excuse of his skin color? Why man appeared selfish in excuse of self-interest? What be the reason that a man claims himself rational and to the same context his rationality treats others as irrational?

The skin cannot answer these questions because it only carries the commotion of life around it but cannot deal or deliver the tumult through synoptic channels as the cerebral cortex does often. The role of the skin is here nothing but a medium, so the answer lied down obviously in the central processing hub or the synoptic pathways of brain membranes and as well as the genesis of genomes. The encoded matrix of genome cells is the cotter that builds this body so it can repeat the game over again. The building block of the cerebral cortex through genetic repetition can be regarded as a vital organ to solve the mystery that why we are made of with sensitivity and intellect? Yeah, contact with the living surface helps skin carries and transmits sensual responses to the cerebral but it per se cannot say anything about the conversion where happiness converts in sorrow, peacefulness in anxiety, cheer in fury, kindheartedness in cruelty, pleasure in fear, and above all love in hatred!

Yes, human skin cannot solve the riddle why reciprocal linearity of worldly things and the interactive clash between them when using the skin as a passage to reach the synoptic hub of the cerebral cortex, why this interaction being changed and disperse conflicting resolution? Man’s contact with worldly things through the skin and its stimulus reflection in skin membranes is lame to solve the puzzle that why indigenous Americans felt hypnotized and think Christopher Columbus a white angel who might arrive at the sky; who in reality was not like that! He mistakenly discovered the indigenous territory to think it India; and the man was in that time was nothing but a greedy bandit. He was a thug who discovered this unknown territory on behalf of Queen Isabella and was eager to change his fate by occupying this land for gold and capital!

The white-skin angel then appeared a nightmare to them. Columbus’s skin contact with indigenous Red Indians was then coming out with plunder, rape, and mass killing of animals; he and his butty also carried influenza and malicious microbes which was not seen in North America before his arrival. Those Native Americans’ sensual feeling and spellbind sensation of touching the white skin man at first arrival was not remained the same after experiencing the cruel nightmare that he is coming here as a thunderbolt to kill them all. Yeah, human skin is lame here to explain why white man Derek Chauvin thinks himself superior to Gorge Floyd! What is the chemistry here that moved Chauvin consider Floyd a dirty nigger whom he thinks must be punished for death under his pale whitened knees?

Why the sensibility of beauty that Chauvin and his twins in the world might carry in their mind insists them to consider black people’s skin as ugly and bearish compare to what they meant by white? This is the limitation of human skin. The Sensual Invoicer is nothing else a biological medium of receiving signals from varied contacts often made by humans and send these to the synoptic hub for further processing; so the cerebral hub can solve the mystery that why Chauvin and his twins misread the evolutionary facts of skin pigmentation by taking such erroneous and flawed stance.

This is the landing zone from where we can recall Nina Jablonski, the palaeobiologist in our days who marked human skin color none else the signage of natural selection process. Nina’s works on human skin pigmentation may help us to feel the spirit underneath our skin that Martin Luther King delivered in his early 60s iconic speech. He delivered his dream that the day must come when everybody will realize human skin cannot be a sign to mark his qualities as a man he might carry in his life. His emotion in the speech when getting peak the man delivered the truth that all are beautiful and as well as acceptable when we feel the man and take over his quality of character instead of his skin color. He visionized his dream: ‘I have a dream (Yeah) that my four little children (Well) will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.’

Nonetheless, consider human skin color as biological means yet stays at remote when we take a glance at the socio-cultural and behavioral approach we’ve encoded in our genes. Or else we are still comfortable to encode those dialects of skin that promote parochial nationality. A large group of people under this nationhood considers their progress as a nation is grander than others. They think they are superior in knowledge, civil and civic sense, economic advancement, political power, wars and treaties, religion and culture, and above all in societal hierarchy. Trapped in such superiority reflects man’s attitude that he as if still belong in the medieval abbeys but deadly trying to hide his medieval majesty by wearing modern outfits!

This adaptability is the cranny which thwarts us to feel the science behind the biological evolution of our genes, the encoding process of our mutation and adaptation in adversity, and the rationality that may help kick out the bad signals we’ve yet sent to the cerebral hub due to some crude conflict may exist amid our cultural skin contacts. There are many shapes and variations in our skin contact. It helps to express our desire for love, affection, compassion through the attachment of persons whom we admire most. Reversely we look at our skin in such manners that simply motivate our gesture to consider many among us insignificant on account of their dark skin, which we think less attractive or not soothing as we have!

Maybe they do not represent the biology that we think is preferably looking good to consider a man pure perfectionist and that’s why civilized like white skin angels! Since after the emergence of western civilization we are habitual with the notion that white angels can only lead the giant ship and sail it on a new direction to found a perfect harbor for rests. If we think superior-aptitude is a biological process and restored over and again then the question is inevitable,—do the cell division and the process of sensual responses in the synoptic hub of the cerebral contain this enigmatic phrase ‘superior’ as a means so a man thinks himself is superior on color than others?

…

The game of life is biological but what about the game happened when cells encode electric signals and chemically interacts or have taken a cell division of one-to-many for life’s sake? Answer this question is tricky. As Richard Dawkins on his grand narrative on Selfish Gene tried to mean the genetic system and cell division of living species is selfish when we follow the evolutionary path of self-survival. Contrary, many cell-biologists according to their self-investigation oppose Dawkins. They found a balanced symbiosis in cells’ life when they interact or a single cell partakes the game to divide as many. That means in the level of interaction where microorganisms partake to wheel life cycle they are impartial about the good and bad effect of being superior and so on. They just interact to make the building block of this bodied life. However, the picture is being changed when we look at a glance at the macro level. Man’s interaction with the worldly things in that world has appeared enigmatic due to the clash between altruism and selfishness or superiority and inferiority as well!

It means we are living in a world where the cell-body of Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King stayed entangled with compassion and kind-hearted enthusiasm to fight against the racist entanglement between Donald Trump and his twin Derek Chauvin. They exist there like philosophical ambiguity that there can be no good exist without bad and bad is useless in the absence of good. Same as the skin-building cells or microorganisms are impartial about the impact of sensation that carries a bad signal for the synoptic hub in the cerebral. To the opposite, the skin as a sensor of the body is a burning issue for both of the frontiers, which means the frontline battle between Lincoln-Luther and Trump-Chauvin allies.

Derek Chauvin and his million twins in whole over the world yet believe a nigger or ethnic immigrants coming from developing countries is not only bearish in color, these people even getting progress in knowledge, education, manners, civic sense and hardworking effort to ‘Make America Great Again’ is not optimal comparing the standard a white American set for himself. This attitude might enough to hate a black man with some vague excuses that his body pretends to be modern and civic in savage outfits. So, reality will not change until we understand the crude biological fact behind the skin, that how it evolved as a carrier of sensation and why it being varicolored in the course of times. Nina Jablonski’s work is relevant in that context. The paleobiologist remarked skin pigmentation of human species an essential part of the natural selection process. She believes Charles Darwin failed to notice the fact in his long journey that explains how natural selection happened in Nature and tried to draw the impact of mutation and adaption in that process.

Nina in her scientific venture tried to catch reader’s attention in a specific point that in his time Darwin was reluctant to consider the variance of human skin color a natural evolutionary fact. Author of ‘The Origin of Species’ seemed less attentive to consider the differences between equatorial and polar climatic conditions a serious biological fact for the skin color pigmentation. Nina doesn’t think it’s a blunder what Darwin did in his time; instead, she considers Darwin’s blunder a limitation of his time because at that time technological advantages and scientific perceptions were not adequate to consider ultraviolet radiation and its intensity a discerning factor for human skin pigmentation.

In her book Skin: A Natural History Nina marked solar-generated UVB (Ultraviolet B) and Melanin a prime source for skin pigmentation. UVB is effective to keep bone structure strong and Melanin protects human-body from harmful ultraviolet radiation like UVC (Ultraviolet C). Nina in her scientific quest said UVB appeared crucial in the early days when men were the resident of equatorial Africa. It was immense on earth’s surface at that time and later gradually reduced from Earth’s surface because of the agriculture and industrial revolution. The immensity of UVB on Earth’s surface has appeared a boon for equatorial residents to absorb vitamin D in their skin, and it as well as pigmented their skin color dark. Nina’s assertion on ultraviolet reminds and reverberate James Lovelock‘s comment he noted in his mid 70s book ‘Gaia: A new look at life on Earth’, where he wrote:

Too much ozone may be as bad as too little. Like everything else in the atmosphere, there are desirable optima. The ozone layer could increase possibly by as much as 15 percent. For all we know, more ozone might be climatically undesirable. We certainly do know that ultra-violet light from the sun is useful and beneficial in some respects, and a thicker ozone layer might prevent it from reaching the Earth’s surface in sufficient quantity. In humans, vitamin D is formed by exposure of the skin to ultra-violet radiation. Too much ultra-violet may mean skin cancer; too little most certainly means rickets. [See: Gaia: A new look at life on Earth by James Lovelock, 1977]

What Lovelock meant by ‘balance thickness’ in the Ozone layer if we recall Nina’s explanation about skin pigmentation in that context then we can guess there was a balance between the radiation of UVB and UVC on Earth’s surface in those days of equatorial Africa. The scenario has changed when Homo sapiens started migration one day. They reached the ice-aged pole, which nowadays covered the majority part of Europe and Central Asia, and history said they met Neanderthal in there. Homo sapiens were bound to migrate because sea level was started to decline in equatorial Africa and the food crisis appeared crucial for survival. The adversity motivates them to take a migration in the new place where they can settle to obtain necessary food more easily than African equatorial.

…

The decision of migration on those days was not as easy as it sounds today. For instance, Chimpanzee and supposedly other members of Ape-man species were staid to stay in Africa instead of taking migration. It later appeared crucial for them to slow down their evolutionary pace in the cerebral cortex. Migration was might be such a cotter that always helps man change their way of living and adaptability in different climatic conditions. Human species always utilize their sensual power and synoptic hub of cerebral more efficiently than other members belong in the Hominid group.

Earlier African primate Homo Habilis was doing the same before Homo sapiens; they as well took migration and it helps them to discover fire. Anyway, the Homo sapiens’ migration from African equatorial made a significant impact on skin pigmentation. It leads them to the Low Ultraviolet Zone from the High. UVB and Melanin were not plenty in the ice soaked region due to the cold thickness of the ambient. Regarding Nina’s explanation, such type ambiance is fecund for UVA (Ultraviolet A) and it was incompetent to supply essential Vitamin D for human skin. Besides, UVA is as well inept to protect the bad entrance of UVC (Ultraviolet C) in human skin.

The impact was potentially great if we consider the changing patterns and traits of ultraviolet rays and their impact on human skin color variation. Suppose to say, in equatorial area ultraviolet rays had immense UVB radiation on the surface which made it beneficial for human skin; on the opposite, the ice-pole region had an immensity of harmful UVC due to the cold density. Nina thinks human migration from the African equatorial zone (Low Ultraviolet Zone or LUVZ) to the ice-age polar zone (High Ultraviolet Zone or HUVZ) had a tremendous impact to make a variation on human skin color. The adaptation is still continuing according to the variation of ultraviolet rays on Earth’s surface.

The aforementioned division between Ultraviolet High and Low Zone has significantly played a changemaker role in human skin pigmentation regarding the thousand year’s migration of human species from one place to another, from low UVZ to the High. Man’s skin was pigmented by dark when they were staying in low UVZ for a long time and the color gradually has started to lighten or blonde when the migration had started moving to the High UVZ; for example, the Alps region and central Asian hilly areas. Nina discussed the cause-effect risk factor of having lightened skin and marked lighten skinned human beings an easy victim of skin cancer; since their skin is easily affected by the bad ultraviolet radiation rather than the dark skin. She discussed the matter to say:

People who inhabit equatorial areas have dark skin pigmented and protected by melanin, much like our earliest ancestors who inhabited Africa. They have remained unchanged over the millennia, unlike their northern counterparts whose skin has lightened as their changing environment demanded, producing less melanin in order to better absorb the necessary amounts of UVB rays. [See: Skin Color is an Illusion: Nina Jablonski; TED Talk

Nina Jablonski uses NASA’s high pixelated photos in her research findings to understand the ultraviolet ray’s distribution level on the earth’s surface. Her scientific method counts the distribution of ultraviolet rays (suppose UVA, UVB, and UVC) in the earth’s zone. Moreover, she classified their pattern and traits and measured its impact alongside the thousand year’s climatic divergence and cultural assimilation of human species on the planet. The change was started once from the equatorial summer pole and speeded up to wintered cold pole at later. That shifting was not just the story of human migration and intermingling, it was as well the story of ultraviolet ray’s distribution and segregation in human skin

This long parallel impact influenced the skin color with significance and depth. Holly M. Dunsworth has made a relevant comment in time to review Nina’s book, where he said:

Skin opens up a whole new set of questions. Aside from sunshine issues, how vulnerable, compared to other mammals, is the naked human skin to cold temperatures, punctures, tears, rashes, fungi, etc.? How would these vulnerabilities have affected human behavioral evolution? How do the skin and the brain differentiate between cold and wet sensations? We learn that bald-faced primates get darker with age, but do they ever get skin cancer Most of the sexual roles of skin are left to the rich imaginations of those readers who “can boast some expertise, gained from personal experience. Nina’s new approach to consider human skin color an evolutionary byproduct has strong significance to reconsider our virulent stance on racism and apartheid. The bad-tempered notion of racism has always used to divide humanity by color. Nina’s colorful mapping can be treated as a useful tool to pull out the cultural fanatics like Derek Chauvin who are habituated to show their hostility based on skin color. Maybe it helped us to reconsider what Michael Jackson once tried to disseminate in his song ‘Black or White’ with true humanity:

Protection
For gangs, clubs, and nations
Causing grief in human relations
It’s a turf war on a global scale
I’d rather hear both sides of the tale
See, it’s not about races
Just places
Faces
Where your blood comes from
Is were your space is
I’ve seen the bright get duller
I’m not going to spend my life being a color

Nina Jablonski’s scientific cognition which considers human skin pigmentation a ‘biological fact’ due to some ‘Ultraviolet penetration‘ in human keep relevancy in today’s world, where the quality of man yet judged by his color! Nina’s scientific venture may helpful for those people who are now reeling in the vicious circle of hatred just because Gorge Floyd is a blacky or whatsoever. We can recall what Nina mentioned in her abstract:

In the history of our species, Homo sapiens, skin pigmentation has been a highly changeable trait. Genetic evidence indicates that similar skin colors have evolved independently numerous times in response to similar environmental conditions and, because of this, skin color is an inappropriate trait for grouping people according to shared ancestry. [See: Abstract: The Evolution of Human Skin Color and Why it Matters by Nina Jablonski; Source: heb.fas.harvard.edu]

Skin is the teller of life, an autobiographer of what we have done in the past and are doing now in present. Nina treated skin as the storyteller of each individual person and indeed the counting clock of his inner-self. She mentioned:

My skin has seen everything that I have, all of the weather, the sorrow, the happiness, the toil. I love the changes that I see in my skin, and I see it as part of my human story… It’s caused humanity a lot of difficulties because people have associated color with the value of human character and moral values.” [See: About your skin: An interview session with Nina Jablonski; nautil.us

Nina’s finding recalls the truth again, that is:—Don’t judge a human by his skin color, rather judge him as the crafted gift of ultraviolet radiation, a varicolored artisan of the sun, which is the prime source of all living beings.
